Don, his first wife Sheri, and, currently, their two rescue dogs Hershey and Pilgrim, live in Boulder, CO, where they all enjoy spending as much time in nature as possible. Don became a vegetarian in 2003 after watching the movie Babe when the light went off and he realized there was an inconsistency in his habit of petting cats and dogs with one hand while eating animals with the other. In 2014 at his doctor’s urging, he went whole hog (so to speak) and became vegan, first for his own health, and then for the earth and animals’ health.
Don has been a UU since 2002, and a member of the UUAM Board since 2022. He is a past Treasurer of the Boulder Valley UU Fellowship. Since leaving his energy consulting career he stays busy with volunteer activities including President of the USS Colorado Submarine Association, Commander of the Denver Post of the Jewish War Veterans, a middle and high school math tutor, a member of the Boulder Valley UU Fellowship Audio Visual team, and the local US Naval Academy Admissions Office representative for interested high school students. He has two 25 year old kids that he quietly, softly nudges in the right direction, so far to no avail.
